Hi,

I am researching the history of Sydney suburban railway carriages that were constructed at the dockyard. The car numbers are: C3171 - C3220 (fifty cars), C3251 - C3300 (fifty cars) and T4301 - T4548 (248 cars). All were built in the 1927-1929 period.

Can you please guide me as to where I may be able to find details on their construction and also photographs of the cars undergoing construction or being barged across the Hunter River.

Located at Paterson this group of volunteers operate 'Tin Hares".

The Richmond Vale Railway Museum is a volunteer non-profit organization, formed in 1979 with the aim of preserving the Railway and Mining Heritage of J&A Brown and the Hunter Valley.

The R.V.R.M. is located in the old Richmond Main Colliery site, Main Road 135, Leggett's Drive, Richmond Vale 4kms south of Kurri Kurri in the Hunter Valley, N.S.W.

The R.V.R.M. runs trains first three Sundays of each month and every Sunday during School Holidays. Gates open at 10am and close at 4pm.

Thanks guy for your replies. I am actually familar with these railway groups.

Does anyone know if the Newcastle Library has an archive of photos / documents relating to Walsh Island? I see that the National Library in Canberra has some photos available for viewing onlt in person.

Hi Glenn

You could try the ARHS in Sydney at Central Station or State Archives.

As these were single decker cars there is probably not many survived.

Attached are the images of the carriages at Carriage Resort, Dungog. The inscription at the doorway of image "Carriage01" reads: "Built at Walsh Island Dockyard Newcastle 1928".
