On 10 December 2006 a ceremony was held on THE FORESHORE at Newcastle, to commemorate the 175-year anniversary of Australia's first railway.
150 people attended the event, where five speakers detailed the national significance of the occasion, and Cr John Tate, Lord Mayor of Newcastle unveiled a plaque to recognise the official opening of the Australian Agricultural Company railway.
